Reading on Dauphin Island

One very nice thing about a beach vacation is that it is very relaxing.

No agenda.

No place to have to run off to.

 Lots of reading.

Nana's stories

Each day after lunch, while Claire went down for her nap (and all the others had down time), I would take the children and tell them stories from the Bible that had "sea" themes.

Like the "the foolish man built his house upon the sand"

or "I will make you fishers of men"

I had all these stories in a treasure box and I would open this box to bring out the story and a craft or activity to do.

One day we talked about pearls.  I showed them some real pearls that my mother has given me and how to tell a real pearl from a fake one.  (you bite it.  a fake pearl will leave teeth marks)  Then I gave them each a treasure map and they had to go on their own treasure hunt.

We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD,
his power, and the wonders he has done.  Psalm 78:4

Swimming with the sharks!

We swam a lot at the beach.  Every day!!  Rain had been predicted for the whole week, but it mostly rained at night.

The people who rented the house behind us were from our sister state, Missouri.
They really enjoyed fishing.
We could see fish jumping out of the water at times.

But something else too!
They invited Hannah and Eli to reel in
 SHARKS!

little sharks and supposedly ones that don't harm people.  There were LOTS of them!!  They were swimming all around us.  I was just hoping the Mama BIG SHARKS would stay away from us!!

And this girl had no idea.
We didn't tell her.
She was a little freaked out that there were
just some fishies swimming out there.
