I took the girls out to the country today.
My friend Elaine has a peach orchard close to Whitewater and she invited us to come pick some peaches.
We first went to her garden. It reminded me of "The Secret Garden".
She has a nashi tree! (Asian pears) They aren't quite ripe yet. I grew up eating these all the time in Japan.
They taste like a cross between an apple and a pear.
Elaine showed the girls how to pick peaches.
There was another family there and their teen son picked up this cicada that had just come out of its outer skins or "exoskeleton". After a little while, he took flight for the first time. I love the sound of the cicada. We have "semi", as we call them in Japan and every summer we would hear them. There were so many and the sound was very loud at times. The buzzing noise is so soothing to me and always brings back reminders of my childhood.
We picked close to 40 pounds of peaches!
I smell a peach pie in the oven! YUM!
ReplyDeletei wish i felt good enough to do that with my girls! We picked apples at their orchard a couple of years ago and had so much fun! love Elaine!
ReplyDeleteFun! I think we are headed there this weekend :)
ReplyDeleteI have been reading your posts for awhile now and I wanted to leave a comment, Job Well Done! You spending soo much quality time with your grandchildren, building a loving relationship and such fun memories with them brings me to tears. I have young children of my own, 5 and 7, and my mom wants nothing to do with them or me for that matter (and she has never met my amazing husband (of 10 years). And my Mother-in-law spoils the other grandchildren who live local (my husband's job makes us move around alot) and has nothing left for our kids. Oh how I wish that relationship for my babies!! Keep it up. Grandchildren need grandparents who love them and teach them. Your grandchildren and children are blessed to have you!
