January walk

One nice thing about Kansas is that even in January there are always a few warm days.  It was in the 60's this past week and an occasion for a nice family walk.
The girls would have loved to have played "Pooh Sticks" but the lake was still frozen.
I don't understand how it can still have ice on the surface when it is warm out.

Poohsticks is a sport first mentioned in The House at Pooh Corner, a Winnie-the-Pooh book by A. A. Milne. It is a simple sport which may be played on any bridge over running water; each player drops a stick on the upstream side of a bridge and the one whose stick first appears on the downstream side is the winner.

 "Hannah! Sophie!  Come back!"

Claire is saying "Honk!  Honk!" (or at least her version of it.  She says "Caw caw" with the accent on the 2nd syllable.  It's what she says to describe a chicken sound.  We think she thinks those are chickens flying in the sky)

 Pick Up Rocks
 See my rocks, Papa?
 See my rocks, Hannah?

What is this about??

We found the swing was broken!  We enjoyed that swing so much.

      Much disappointment.

Someone had tied a stick to the rope so Hannah still enjoyed that.

For the beauty of the earth, for the glory of the skies,
For the love which from our birth over and around us lies:
Christ our God, to Thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise.

For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child (and grandchild!),
Friends on earth and friends above, for all gentle thoughts and mild:
Christ our God, To Thee we raise this our our hymn of grateful praise.
