Port of Cenchreae

We left Corinth and made a stop in the middle of nowhere, it seemed.  A beautiful spot by the sea.  It was ancient Cenchreae.

"After this, Paul stayed many days longer and then took leave of the brothers and set sail for Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquilla.  At Cenchreae he had cut his hair, for he was under a vow."  Acts 18:18

"I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a servant of the church at Cenchreae, that you may welcome her in the Lord in a way worthy of the saints, and help her in whatever she may need from you, for she has been a patron of many of myself as well."  Romans 16:1-2

There are remains of an old Byzantine church here.  Built to remember Paul's departure from this port.
