Props

My friend, Mary Ellen Tippin is an author.

She's written several children's books.  She is making a dance musicale from her book "The Christmas Birdie" that will be performed Thanksgiving weekend, November 29, at 7:00 p.m. or Sunday, November 30, at 3:00 p.m. at Bethel  College.

She asked if I would be willing to help with props.  I said yes, of course, and so I have been putting together a nest that 3 little "birdies" can sit in; a haystack and also a cave.  The garage has been taken over by this work in progress.

I sort of feel badly paper mache-ing over some one's wedding pictures!

My friend Caryn, who is an accomplished artist and has also been in Bible study with Mary Ellen and I for years, is helping me with this project.  After we got the paper mache-ing done, we began painting this cave.

Taking a break!

One day the girls were at our house and they wanted to help too.
They helped paper mache the ceiling of the cave.

They were such hard workers and did an excellent job!
A woodpecker got into our garage to have a look-see at the cave.

Mary Ellen is having a book signing at Faith & Life Bookstore on Saturday, Oct. 4, 10-12 am.

Best wishes to my friend!!  Looking forward to the musicale in November!!

Flowers

We are still having very nice 70 and low 80 degree weather in Kansas.

But it is fall and I know the cold weather is around the corner!

Enjoying the flowers while they last!

For the beauty of each hour
of the day and of the night,
hill and vale, and tree and flower,
            sun and moon, and stars of light;
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

Progression

The other morning, we had a glorious sunrise!
I kept clicking the photos as the sun rose higher in the sky.

And off to the west, there was this subtle hint of a rainbow.  So subtle that my colorblind husband could not even detect it!

Friends who lived further north had a grand view of the rainbow - clear across the sky -  I saw their photos on their blogs or facebook.  But it was just a hint here.
For the beauty of the earth,
for the glory of the skies,
for the love which from our birth
 over and around us lies;
Lord of all, to thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

And here is our neighbor dog again, wondering about this silly lady with her camera.

Hummingbirds and clouds

We have a few hummingbirds that visit regularly.  What I have never seen before is one that just enjoys sitting on top of the feeder.  He sits there a long time!  Many times a day!

I love how you can see his little beak parted in song.
The purple martins have left so Al took down the house.
This photo was teken on a foggy morning.

Foggy mornings are beautiful!

I LOVE the way God paints the sky every day!! ....

...and I enjoy the reflection into my home
(I hope the Son reflects on the home of my heart too!)

Our neighbor's dog, Fye, thinks I'm wierd, taking pictures all the time.

God speaks to us in bird and song,
In winds that drift the clouds along,
Above the din and toil of wrong,
A melody of love.
