Fired!

It is a crazy snowy day.

We could have 16 inches by the time it is finished tomorrow.

Jill cancelled piano, not only because of the snow, but because she wasn't feeling well. So Adam brought the girls over this afternoon.

We made snow ice-cream.

1 cup milk

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

1/2 cup sugar

4-5 cups fresh snow

Eat fast before it melts!

YUM!!!!

After eating our fill, we decided to do another project. I had looked on-line on how to make home-made silly putty.

2 parts glue to 1 part liquid starch. Mix and knead together. Add food coloring and you are good to go.

Well, at first it wouldn't hold together so well and the instructions said to add more glue if that was the case. So I did that. But then it was too sticky.

And it stuck to their socks.

Hannah said "Mommy is going to fire you! She won't let you watch us anymore!"

I made them take off their socks.

Luckily I read that if it gets on your clothes to clean it off with vinegar and sure enough, it came right off. Thank goodness! I didn't want to get fired!!

In the end, it turned out to be pretty cool stuff. I put it in a baggie to play with next time they come.

#1! Go Packers!!

Last evening several of us met in the Activity Center to cheer on the Packers - well, there were a few who were cheering for the "other" team.

There was lots of yummy food! Soups, breads, cookies, cheese and crackers.... I brought some cheezy bread (recipe below for those who asked).


There was another group meeting in the Fireside room. Although I did get a cheesehead on him, Bobby was cheering for that "other" team. Every time we would make a touchdown, Adam would run over to the Fireside room and cheer and then when Pitt made theirs, this "infidel" would come running over yelling.

Can you believe this??? This Minnesota Viking fan is actually sitting in the Packer chair!

Super Packer fans. They even got a babysitter so they could focus on the game.

The Viking fans hoping for Packers to lose - except for sweet Ella who was cheering on the Packers for Hannah and Sophia's sake.

Sam liked to sit at the very edge of the stage and wait for daddy to come swoop him off and swing him in circles. So much fun!

And little Marin toddled all over the place. She has just learned to walk.

I didn't get pictures of the other little children there - feel bad about that.

We were all nerves that last quarter. Jill's stomach was all knots. But we were so excited to see the Packers

WIN!!!!

Not sure what that face is all about, Adam. Maybe stuffed from all the food we ate.

Adam and Jill wish they could drive up to Green Bay and celebrate with their family and friends there!! School was canceled in GB today as they have a parade and welcome the heroes back home. Adam made the comment during worship in the morning how the city of Green Bay just loves their team. They own the team, unlike other NFL teams who have one owner.

For many people, if their team loses, it ruins their day. But what a high if they win. But in perspective, it really is just a game. Having victory in our lives through Jesus Christ is really what counts.

But it sure was fun for our team to win!!!!! YAY Packers!!

OK. Here is a picture of the cheesy bread I made:

1/2 cup butter, melted

1/4 teaspoon garlic salt

In shallow bowl, (I used a square dish) combine butter and garlic salt.

1 1/2 cups finely shredded cheddar cheese

1 1/2 cups finely shredded mozzarella cheese

3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Combine cheeses in another shallow dish.

24-36 frozen dinner rolls, thawed

Thaw out the dinner rolls; then on lightly floured surface, roll each dinner roll into a 10 inch rope. Dip into butter mix, then in cheese mixture.

Fold each rope in half and twist. Pinch ends together to seal. Place on greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise until almost doubled, about 30 minutes.

Bake 350 degrees fro 15 minutes or until golden brown.

Puzzles

This monster storm that came through with the blizzard winds left my front porch inaccessible. Huge 3 feet drifts!!

So I got outside today (mind you, the wind chill was -15 or something). I bundled up real good and headed out to dig a tunnel.

The grandkids came over this afternoon and thought it was pretty cool.

It was too cold to stay out for very long. So we got busy with indoor projects.

We've been into puzzles lately.

Even my Arkansas granddaughter loves them.

We tend to do the edges first but Emeri finds each princess and completes each one individually before doing the border.

Puzzles are a great entertainment these cold days - along with drinking hot chocolate with lots of marshmallows!

Recipe dividers

I've been in a cleaning mode lately. Yesterday I cleaned out all my kitchen cabinets; putting things I don't use in a "donate" box and wiping down all the drawers and shelves. I had some "tupperware" without lids or lids without bottoms. Toss.

Today I decided to clean out my recipe box. (Al says "Seems like you are nesting. Are you sure you aren't pregnant?" Ha! That would be a miracle for this old grandma!)

This recipe box is one I purchased back in the '70's. It was tight on the budget (we were in college) but it has been worth it! I really like it. It holds 3x5 recipe cards. Seems like most recipe boxes today hold 4x6 cards. We didn't have those back then I don't think.

Just like we only used to get photo prints in 3x5's but now they come in 4x6. We've gotten bigger - in girth also!

I have some precious recipes in this box; like this one from Al's mother.


When she passed away, we copied all her recipes so all of us girls could have them.

My recipe dividers were awful and needed to be replaced so badly!! Most of them had lost their green protective label covers. I thought about purchasing some new ones, but decided I could make them with my Printmaster program. That way I could categorize them just like I wanted.

I printed off the food categories and also copied some clipart onto each card. It was so fun to design! You could also use cute printed cardstock paper.

...and cut them.

The box is just a little full! What I need to do is go through it and if I haven't used the recipe in the last year or two, I need to toss them.

What can I clean next?

Trip to Arkansas

We went to see our Arkansas grandbabies this past weekend. Our son's wife, Staci, had gone to Houston to visit a friend who had a newborn and also to see another friend, a young mom who has cancer and is at MD Anderson.

So we went to help Josh with the kids.

The closer we got to Arkansas, the more snow we saw on the ground. We had not expected that!

It made for a fun day the next day!

As I watched Elijah hugging his daddy, I had to think about how much our Father enjoys it when we come to Him with unabashed love!

We love our grandkids so much! There really is nothing like being a grandparent!!

On the last day, we got to go to Emeri's gymnastics class.
