We had such a wonderful time with the family in Door County but it was time for us to head home. Papa had to be at work soon. We had our good-byes.
At the last minute, Jill remembered that she had a gift for Papa - a Father's Day gift. He sometimes has a hard time recalling memories of childhood until you ask specific questions, so this book is to help him write his life story for the kids. I have one too and I've been working on my story.
Silly waves - a family tradition
We started this when the kids were little to make good-byes fun!
We left Ellison Bay. Driving past a house both Jill and I fell in love with.
At Fish Creek, we took a country road east to get to the east side of the peninsula. We decided that we would drive south along Lake Michigan. Going across, we saw many of these kinds of evergreens. We do not have trees like this in Kansas that I know of. Like a layered evergreen.
At the town of Algoma, we found a coffee shop.
Algoma is right by Lake Michigan.
You cannot even see across the lake. Feels like an ocean.
There is a town called Alaska, Wisconsin just south of Algoma.
At Kewaunee, we stopped at a little park.
Drove past another CUTE house!
As we continued south along the lake, we saw this big ship.
It pulled into Manitowac.
We picked up 43 South and drove to Zion.
We had decided to visit Zion, which is one reason we drove on the east side by Lake Michigan. Well, and also because it was a road we had not ever been on before and we LOVE to drive places we've never been before.
We first heard of the city of Zion when we were reading the newspapers from 1899-1902 that were compiled from my mother's home town of Pandora, Ohio. There were several articles about people from the area who were following this guy named John Dowie.
He was also named Elijah the Restorer. He started a Divine Healing Association back in the late 1800's. He taught that poor health was caused by sinfulness. He healed the niece of Buffalo Bill and he became quite famous. He dreamed of a city where his congregation would be free from the evils of this world, where God would be the ruler.
He said his city would become the Zion foretold in Revelation. He declared himself to be the 3rd manifestation of Elijah who would restore the church. Of course, it never happened. He fell ill himself and died just before his 60th birthday.
We were just curious to see this place where so many from Pandora had followed this man.
One must be careful of not only false prophets, but teaching that is false. We must keep our eyes on the Lord, study His Word and know it. Spend time with Him every day, talk with Him and pour out your hearts to Him.
Psalm 119:105 "Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." When you are walking someplace after dark, it is GOOD to have a flashlight to light the way so we don't stumble or step on a snake. Right?
The Bible shows us the way. Align every thing you hear against it! What does the culture say? What do politicians say? What does the preacher say? Is it what God tells us?
Matthew 24:24 says "For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect."
2 Timothy 4:3-4 "For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths."
2 Peter 3:17,18 "Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ."
