To the mountains

The next morning we slept in.  Their guest room has no window so it was dark as could be!  We tend to wake up between 5 and 6, but we slept until 8:30 Kansas time!!  WHAT?!  Maybe we need blackout shades in our bedroom, although we wake up when it is still dark outside, so....

It was a bright, clear day!  A beautiful day to head for the mountains!
Mindy had made a delicious egg cassserole for breakfast!

After Mindy took Bear (their dog) to the dog sitter, we took off.

Space ship house.  If you Google it, you will see pictures of the inside!
 Aspens!

A plane coming in for a landing

I'd love to take a train ride here!
At Glenwood Springs, we stopped for lunch. Mindy has a thing for donuts and so first we found a donut shop to pick up some for a snack later.

Don't think he'll get too far chasing someone!
We stopped for lunch at this hole-in-the-wall named The Daily Bread.  I'm not sure why it is called that.  Not sure if it is a Christian place or not.  They didn't have "Our Daily Bread" devotionals that I read every day on the counter, like they do at the Korean/Japanese store I shop at (their copies are not in English though).

They serve American and Polish cousine.  I ordered pierogi, similar to our German verenika. They are filled with cottage cheese.  With verenika, we eat it with ham gravy and these were served with bacon and sour cream on the side.  Interesting.

 Twin Peaks (I think)
Jason opened the topper so we could see the mountains better.

He took us to Maroon Bells
"I look up to the hills.  Where does my help come from?  My help comes from the Lord.  He is the Maker of heaven and earth."  Psalm 121:1-2

This looks like something Bob Ross would paint!
Happy little trees.
Maybe this fox is on the hunt for the chipmunks we saw!

 Beaver lodge
 and the beaver too!

We went to Aspen for dinner.  The place Mindy was going to take us was closed for the season, so we went to an Italian place called Mezzaluna.  We all ordered the same dish; caesar salad and chicken cacciatore to split.  And we finished it off with creme brulee and tiramisu.  Perfect ending to a perfect day!
