As I am writing this, torrential rain is coming down. Pouring down!
"Who can tilt the water jars of heaven?" - Job 38:37
So far this morning, we have received 3". Add that to the rain of this past week and that puts us at 7.5! And we are not done as more is coming today and predicted for later in the week too.
The creek behind our house is overflowing.
Do you say "creek" or "crik"
It keeps pouring down and the thunder is booming. Flashes of lightning brighten the sky. Reminds me of a song I sing for my grandchildren and little kids at church. It is to the tune of Hickory Dickory Dock. You might enjoy singing this for the children in your life!
Boomity, boomity, boom, I hear the thunder boom,
Cover your ears so you can't hear, boomity, boomity, boom!
BOOM! BOOM!
Zoomity, zoomity, zoom, I see the lightning zoom,
Across the sky in the dark of the night, zoomity, zoomity, zoom!
ZOOM! ZOOM!
Drippety, drippety, drop, The rain drops fall plip plop,
The clouds are dark, the rain falls down, drippety, drippety, drop!
PLIP, PLOP!
It is only in the 60's so you know what I made? Soup! Soup in June in Kansas?!
My phone went off signaling a flood warning. I'm sure Highway 81 to Wichita is flooded and perhaps some homes in town. In the 1965 our town was flooded. Allen's Dad came here with the Mennonite Disaster Aid to help out. After that, the town dug out the creek to handle flood water levels. Later they added a rubber bladder to dam it up.
This past Saturday our neighborhood had a clean up day.
We worked all around the pond, but we also cleaned up some of the brush and trees growing in the little creek behind our home. We didn't get it all done, but we got a good start!
Mr. Heron just flew right by my window! I grabbed the camera. He's going fishin'!
He got himself a big one!
A couple of years after we moved here, we had 13", so much rain that creek came up about 1/3rd of the way to our house. I remember watching it between lightning strikes as it rose higher and higher up our back yard. Al had to go to a hospital in Wichita after some meds for work and he followed the lights of the semi in front of him as it was pouring down so hard. Luckily he made it safely and our house did not flood either.
"He will refresh us like rain renewing the earth in the springtime." - Hosea 6:3
There is a benefit to rain.
"Let us know; let us press on to know the LORD;
His going out is as sure as the dawn,
He will come to us as the showers,
as the spring rains that water the earth." Hosea 6:3
This is the full verse. I love the version I wrote earlier that says He refreshes us! This is the truth. God's Word does this!
"It is true that for a while, the dark clouds hide the sun, but it is not extinguished and it will soon shine again. Meanwhile those clouds are filled with rain and the darker they are, the more likely they are to bring plentiful showers."
The darker the clouds, the more the weight, the more rain we receive. If our circumstances are heavy and dark, ask the LORD to drench you with His love and His mercy.
