Birding with the grandkids

After the Andrew Peterson concert, Hannah and Sophia had a sleepover with us.  The next morning, we went to Druber's, our local donut shop.
It was the first Saturday of the month, which meant it was time to go on the monthly bird walk.  The kids were willing to go with me and learn about one of my hobbies.

Hannah asked if she could take pictures.
She did a great job of capturing the beautiful flora as well as the birds.
This tree was filled with robins and a few lingering hedgeballs.
 We counted about 21cedar waxwings!

There were also nuthatches, titmice, chickadees, red-bellied woodpeckers, a kinglet, brown creepers, Carolina wrens, a yellow-bellied sapsucker, hermit thrush and jays, cardinals, starlings (of course) and crows.

(Carolina wrens are one of my favorite!)
    I adore paintings of wrens!

We finished the walk after an hour and a half or so.  It had begun to spritz rain and we were chilled.  It was good to get into the warm grocery store.

After putting away our groceries at home and grabbing a bite to eat, we went to our Haiti packing party.  We will be going to Haiti soon and we needed to pack up all the Christmas shoe boxes.  Everyone was careful packing their shoe boxes for their sponsored children, but we needed to unpack each one.  The contents were put in 2 gallon baggies with the child's name on it.
Each sack is then vacuum sealed tightly and packed into suitcases.  Once we get all of the suitcases to Haiti, we will make sure to get the correct contents back into correct boxes, especially boxes that were wrapped with special paper.

Some families put special cards inside their boxes. Love this one!

Sarah baked wonderful melt-in-your-mouth cinnamon rolls for the party.

Much to do in the days to come!

Andrew Peterson concert

We got home from Arkansas just in time to babysit our Kansas grandkids and then go to a concert at our church - Andrew Peterson in "Behold the Lamb of God."  It is his 17th Lamb of God tour.  We've attended several and just love it!  What a privilege to have him at our church!

We saw several "old" friends, like Evan, who was a classmate of our son's.  Jim, our kid's youth pastor back in the day, who lives in Denver now.  Also other families from Dallas and OKC came that we hadn't seen in a long time!

Jill Phillips, Jenny and Tyler, Andy Gullahorn, Ben Shive and others also performed.

A GREAT worship service!!  Preparing to celebrate the "birthday" of Christ!

Bennett, who is in my Sunday School class, sat just down the row from us and kept staring at me and also at our daughter, Jill.  Jill teaches piano to a couple of his siblings so is at his house weekly.  It just got rather comical.  Al said "He's smitten!"

Andrew Peterson mentioned that there are more slaves now than at any other time in history.  They showed this film and gave an opportunity to give money toward this cause to try to bring an end to slavery.  Please consider!

A Time Machine, Elvis and the Brady Bunch

Our Arkansas granddaughter had a school Christmas program Thursday night, so we quickly drove down to see it.  We took 400 to see if construction was almost done.  It is getting close to finished and the new road will be great!  One good thing about 400 is stopping in Webb City at Culver's!  Butterburgers!!

Emeri's program was called "Back to the Manger"
(like "Back to the Future" re-written)

to various decades and finally to the manger.

So happy!

We spent the night at the "Prier Hotel" (Staci's parents who live next door).  We stayed up until 11:30 talking doctrine, politics, listening to love songs and worship songs.  Such fun!  We sure do enjoy Dan and Lisa!

Good-bye silly waves the next day.   It is our family tradition to do silly waves (actions) when we all leave eachother's places.

Good-bye to Arkansas!  Just beautiful!
