Fiddler on the Roof

I have a few records and some are pretty old.  One in my collection is Fiddler on the Roof, purchased in 1971.  Oh, how I loved that movie!

I was super excited to hear that our Arkansas grandkids were going to be doing the musical of this movie!  How exciting is that?!

So off we went to Arkansas.

We arrived around rush hour.  But it wasn't too bad.

When we got there, the grandkids were doing their play.  So they weren't home.  They did this play 6 different times!  We hung out with Josh, Staci, Reggie and Joby.

In the past we have slept next door at Staci's parents' house, but Josh and Staci bought a sofa sleeper and converted their study into a guest room as well as a study so we stayed with them.  It was very comfy.

The next day, Allen and Josh did some projects.

Al helped with cooking.  I was impressed.  Maybe when he retires, I can retire from cooking??

The kids slept in and then went off to get ready for the next program.

Josh got a hair cut from a pretty "hairdresser".

And then we got ready and left to go watch the Fiddler on the Roof!

Emeri was the matchmaker.  Eli was the Rabbi.

Eli was also a Russian dancer.  They had to yank off his beard for this.
Ouch!

I can see my son's face here!

This play is really a tragic story and I just wanted to weep at the end.

This story takes place in a fictional village of Anatevka in the Pale of Settlement of the Russian Empire in 1905, where Jewish settlers could be managed.  Our ancestors also lived around the same area, but left there to come to the United States in 1874.  Our ancestors had been invited by Katherine the Great and given certain freedoms for 100 years, but those years were up and the children would soon have to go to Russian schools and the men would have had to join the military.  As pacifists (Mennonites), they were not willing.  So, we are in the United States and not in the Ukraine.

Every evening, the kids would go out after the shows to eat and unwind with their friends.  It would be after midnight till they got home.  So we didn't see much of them!

The next morning was Sunday morning.  We went to the early service at Josh's church.

We sat in the clear back as he was overseeing all things and had to be up and about.

They were handing out this little devotional to be read this week.  Josh wrote it!
I get all choked up thinking about how God is using our kids for Kingdom work!

It was was Palm Sunday.  Christ rode the colt of a donkey into Jerusalem.  The crowds cried out -
"Blessed be the King Who comes in the name of the Lord!
Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!"
The Pharisees said to Jesus "Rebuke your disciples!
Jesus said, "I tell you, if these remain silent, the stones will cry out."

I have this stone in my front entryway.

All creation, come praise the Name of the LORD.  Praise His Name alone.
