Birding with the grandkids

After the Andrew Peterson concert, Hannah and Sophia had a sleepover with us.  The next morning, we went to Druber's, our local donut shop.
It was the first Saturday of the month, which meant it was time to go on the monthly bird walk.  The kids were willing to go with me and learn about one of my hobbies.

Hannah asked if she could take pictures.
She did a great job of capturing the beautiful flora as well as the birds.
This tree was filled with robins and a few lingering hedgeballs.
 We counted about 21cedar waxwings!

There were also nuthatches, titmice, chickadees, red-bellied woodpeckers, a kinglet, brown creepers, Carolina wrens, a yellow-bellied sapsucker, hermit thrush and jays, cardinals, starlings (of course) and crows.

(Carolina wrens are one of my favorite!)
    I adore paintings of wrens!

We finished the walk after an hour and a half or so.  It had begun to spritz rain and we were chilled.  It was good to get into the warm grocery store.

After putting away our groceries at home and grabbing a bite to eat, we went to our Haiti packing party.  We will be going to Haiti soon and we needed to pack up all the Christmas shoe boxes.  Everyone was careful packing their shoe boxes for their sponsored children, but we needed to unpack each one.  The contents were put in 2 gallon baggies with the child's name on it.
Each sack is then vacuum sealed tightly and packed into suitcases.  Once we get all of the suitcases to Haiti, we will make sure to get the correct contents back into correct boxes, especially boxes that were wrapped with special paper.

Some families put special cards inside their boxes. Love this one!

Sarah baked wonderful melt-in-your-mouth cinnamon rolls for the party.

Much to do in the days to come!
